2020.10.25 00:56 here_4_advice I don't know where my career is heading. Should I quit?

[TLDR; I'm a jack of all trades in visual arts and it's rendering me too scared to pursue anything. My life and art lost all its meaning and I don't know where to turn.]
I'll try to make this as coherent as possible but I have alot on my mind. Sorry if I hop around different topics alot.
I (turning 20 in a few days) have graduated from industrial design in high school over two years ago and ever since then I've been completely lost.
Ever since I was a kid I spent an insane amount of time drawing, did alot of after school art activities, was always told by my teachers to keep at it, definitely go to university, etc. Every art teacher I ever met would tell you I was talented. Wether I was that or hard working I cannot tell you, because I was always insanenly insecure about myself and my abilities to the point I would panic seconds before turning in my assignment thinking it'll be the absolute worst. So I always overworked myself on any and every project bc of that fear, when it was no longer justified or helpful at all bc I would neglect things like eating or sleeping or waste money on extra materials I didn't end up using.
Ever since I left school I had to look long and hard at myself and my work. I know that from a very young age my dream/goal was to become either an animator, illustrator or a comic book author, or something of that sort. I love visual storytelling and cartoons ignite passion in me the levels of which I cannot describe with a few words. I was always the quiet kid thinking up stories and characters in my head while the world turned around me.
I chose the industrial design school bc it was the only public art school in my town (fyi public schools in Europe more often that not give you higher quality education than private schools, plus my family can't afford to pay tuition anyway) I didn't want to move away at the time and my mom insisted it'll help me aquire some practical skill to utilize in case I ever need a back up. And she was right, I don't regret a single minute of studying there, I now have basic knowledge in construction, building furniture, 3d modeling, welding, alot of amazing things and just generally am more manually capable, which is a huge thing for someone like me who isn't naturally a very practical person.
But this is where my problem comes in. Over the years I've been introduced to so many different teqniques and media and fell in love with so many of them that I have no idea where to go.
Its my third year of trying to get myself to pick a uni to apply to and I just can't get over the paralysing feeling that I don't know who I am, what I find meaningful and what I want to pursue. I have this overwhelming fear that I'm going to pick a wrong major and get myself stuck in a life and career I'll end up hating. It takes me over every time I try to sit down and realistically think about what do I want to pick and try out. I just get so overwhelmed to the point I just procrastinate doing it and either pick something last minute or just bail out completely.
Another thing is that in order to apply I need to have a portfolio ready. One that consists of my own works, not what we did in school. Which forces me to ask myself "what DO I wanna make?" and the answer becomes more difficult and painful to try and find every time. On one hand I want to do a million things. I have so many different project ideas, I have an idea for a story book, I want to do large scale paintings, I'm meaning to come back to trying to make ready made art. And with how far I've sometimes gone in my design projects, I feel like I don't want to throw that path away... I feel like design is one of the few art forms I actually feel really confident in, because I understand what the entire process essentially comes down to, and I can like talk my brain out of feeling inadequate more easily, because I know what parts of the process are crucial and how to make sure they get done right. But I tried to look at what kind of work did I usually do for myself even while I was in school to maybe see if that would nudge me in the right direction. It's always been just theese little self indulgent character sketches, stuff you see every other influencer artist post on their Instagram.
Over the last two years when I tried to make stuff purely on my own I not only lacked the discipline to get things done/do them to a certain standard, but also entierly lost the will/passion for making anything.
The entire process just became stressful and draining. My only thoughts/goals for every piece I started were "this has to be perfect enough to be put into that portfolio" or "I need to figure out who I am as an artist and I need to do it NOW" or just that weird instant gratification chase of making something that looks "nice" or makes you feel like you know what you're doing while drawing even when you don't. I do not know if it was mostly thanks to all the pressure I put on myself during all that time, if I'm having some sort of a quarter life crisis or a super long continuous burnout. I'm also questioning if Ive just been living my life following what everyone else was telling me and asking of me, and if my need to please my teachers and parents was greater than trying to figure out what I wanted out of life.
I recently had this realization that I did primarily use art as a form of escapism. But I feel like I've reached a point where I have nothing to be escaping from in my day to day life, and it rendered me feeling like I have nothing to say anymore. Like I have no reason to make art now. At all.
I don't know if the fact that I spent most of my time at home experiencing something akin to depression aided to that. Even before the lockdown my life pretty much looked the same as it does in quarantine, the only difference being I found a manual job at a nearby grocery store so I wouldn't go insane and at least make some money since I don't have my student status anymore. I'm not very on the extroverted side so you could argue that I also just dont have energy when I get home from work bc I expend all of it interacting with the customers. I went from drawing more or less every day back when I was in school (and Im including like even small doodles in my sketchbook etc. into that) to drawing about once or twice a week, with sometimes even longer breaks in between, and when I looked into my phone gallery this week I realised it's been almost a year since the last time I finished an actual artwork, like a full on piece that I would concider including in a portfolio or posting online (I also never got around to posting my stuff. I try to sometimes, but I'm not good at being consistent and I've probably posted less than 20 artworks online in total, scattered around different accounts at different points in time.)
I also tried to think about what I want out of life or my career. For the last two years my brain keeps echoing the same thing: I just want enough money to feel financially secure, and a job that won't take up so much time that I won't be able to do other things. Like I want to spend time outdoors again, I want to travel, I want to live. A bigger part of me now wants to pursue that over pursuing being the high end protege artist I felt everyone always told me to strive to be and saw me as. I really don't know where I stand, or what I should do. There are days where I want to throw everything away and become a psychologist, a marine biologist or even being a designer sounds less stressful to me than any of the other afore-mentioned things. Problem is I literally never had any other hobbies besides art. Everyone at our high school did like, dancing on the side, or played an instrument. I always put my all damn eggs into the visual arts basket, and now even though I know the basics of photography, design, animation, woodwork, you fucking name it and and I probbaly took a class for it at some point, even fucking ceramics or flower arranging. But I've never played a sport, learned to sing, etc.
I'm sick of it. I'm sick of everything and I don't know what to do. I don't know what my life is or should be about. And I'm tired of being too paralyzed to try something, and I'm tired of sitting here doing nothing at the same time.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

2020.10.25 00:51 Pray4Sleep This has nothing to do with sex... well maybe.

I have suffered from depression in silence for as long as I can remember, well I know exactly when it started but that's a different issue . I am a 28 year old male with what I would describe as depression.. just your old bog standard old school depression. I never thought about sex in my " youth ' because I was always a looser and thought it would never be an option because who could love a looser? Well I struck the jackpot and got the girl I've been chasing for 6-7 years. She's a coworker and she's wonderful. She don't know about my past struggles and I think she got enough on her plate to think about me anyways. Thats me in a nutshell, always thinking about others because I truly believe that if I cant have a good life then I need to make sure to be the opposite of what certain others have been to me. So I'm easily manipulated and I NEVER say no to anything even when I get really mad at the obvious manipulation from exs. My boss.
I always wanted to quit my job and tell my boss to go to hell but then I think of the customers and I just can't, I believe the customers won't get what they pay for if I quit because I'm the only one that truly gives a shot a my job. To put it in perspective, I bought a house that was in bad shape because I did t want to trouble the real estate agent. That happened at the same time my father died from cancer .. unrelated as it i had depression for long before that. but I felt an instant relief when he died because of the pain he suffered on his deathbed. Im having trouble with saying NO and putting myself FIRST.
This actually leads into my sexlife. I cum so fast, im talking minute's.. she isn't even close to starting when I'm done. I can't satisfy her needs unless I'm drunk then i can apparently go forever. But I really don't like drinking because I have a past with alcoholism that lost me allot of friends .
I guess there isn't really much of a question here as a desire to share my thoughts anonymously.
I should say I'm not suicidal, I struggle from depression and it effects my relationship and courage. I have an constant itch to HELP people and part of me wants to do that on a large scale but I'm a coward.
It's a rough life out here but giving up is not an option, we can all struggle and still help others as a therapy for our own sanity.
Be good to each other its all that matters in life.

2020.10.25 00:27 snafu____ Memory and cognition have been so much worse since I started meds.

Hi everyone! I was diagnosed very recently after about 6 months of progressively worsening symptoms, which unfortunately I thought was ADHD hence not seeing a psychiatrist sooner, and my memory and cognition have really just gotten worse over time. About a week and a half ago I started lithium (300mg 2x a day) and it has gotten so much worse that it took me 20 seconds to remember that I started lithium 1.5 weeks ago and not 3.
The memory is the real issue for me, it started as just some lapses in time, but has gotten to the point where everything is cloudy and my timeline of past events has more holes in it than actual things that happened. When I do things like listen to lectures even if I'm able to fully pay attention at the time and take notes, after an hour I won't even be able to remember the topic of the whole lecture, not to mention the content in it. I can't tell if the cognition is just a memory issue, but I've been so all over the place when trying to do stuff, like my brain just moves slower and every 10 seconds I have to remind myself what I'm doing. Sort of like trying to remember a grocery list in your head while trying to also do homework. Things all seem dreamlike, if I daydream something then there's a good chance I'll remember it as actually happening. My timeline is messed up, things are out of place, there's massive holes every that I can't remember what happened in.
Has anyone experienced anything like this? I've talked to my sister who also has it and she says it's pretty similar but I can't do it if it's like this. I'm a smart student, I want to be a doctor, but not if this keeps up. I couldn't imagine trying to study for a big test in this condition. I will just refuse to take meds if they make me feel like this, I'd rather be messed up but at least myself than just some figment of what I used to be. I'm really worried that my psychiatrist will increase the lithium and my memory will get way worse, does anyone know if the side effects scale with the dosage of the medication? Or maybe if you experienced similar effects and switching medications helped?

2020.10.25 00:07 AutomaticStress [WTS] Benchmade Proper (B)

Hey guys, selling this Benchmade Proper today. Originally, I wanted a dedicated slip joint for collection purposes and to have a dedicated knife to hand to non-knife people. In the end I decided I would spend $15 on SAK scales and make my Victorinox Compact black instead of red and since I already carry it everyday I could have a dedicated "acceptable" knife for scaredy cats and not have to carry another knife (and recoup some money). Also, ignore the QC Chase (pink) in the timestamp, decided not to sell for now.
Timestamp and pictures
Anyways, this guy was originally bought from here. Comes with the box and pouch. I haven't cut with it, but I think I carried it in gym shorts maybe once and I'm not the original owner. It's a great little slip joint, the micarta is sweet. S30V and like I said micarta on this one. Good shape, has a half stop. Definitely a strong half stop on this one, it won't close on you. Never noticed it, but it seems to not be centered (it's a real Benchmade thank god). I'm looking for $100 shipped or best reasonable offers. I will ship it out on Monday using USPS priority to the CONUS only. Please pay with PP GS with no notes (I put this every sale and I feel like no one ever reads this part).

2020.10.25 00:05 meow_said_the_dog To the five or six of you who need to hear this, gurus' challenge accounts are usually as real as my mom's boobs.

Edit: tl; dr: It's really easy to make a tiny account grow when you (or friends) have a larger account or plenty of followers. The profit is coming from inside the app.
Every now and then someone here will mention x, y, or z "guru" and how that guru used a challenge account to turn $500 into $1000 in a week. After all, they have proof. They even walk you through their trades (after the trades). So just trust them!
You can do the same by getting a large enough audience, buying some shares, and telling your large audience what you bought. They also but. Then you sell the shares. It's a pump and dump scheme on a smaller scale then most of them, though they probably have shares elsewhere. It makes it easier to show a loss from time to time in the small account when you know you're dumping.
What if this is how you hope to build your followers--you want to show them how much money you can make them. You want to show them how you took a $200 account and turned it into $2000. Then they'll follow you! You have a Webull account. You have a RH account. You dig a bit and find a few stocks that occasionally have like two asks and two bids at one time. You get some shares. Small account wants to buy 100 shares at $2 each. That's more than the highest bid of $1.75 each. BUT it's lower than the $4.25 ask. But wait! Someone has come along and entered a $2 ask price for exactly 200 shares. Crazy. Next week, you are ready to sell the stock for $4.00 a share. Highest bid is still $1.75 because no one even remembers what this company does. No one is going to pay $4.00 a share. Until someone does. Weird. It could be you. It could be a friend. It could be a few friends. The MMs are going to get their money, so it's a bit more expensive than breaking even. But damn does that challenge account look great!
MORE DETAIL
This is painting the tape. Unscrupulous brokers have done it for awhile and still do. If you get a bunch of eyes on a small float stock simply because of the price change, you can probably get them to buy in due to FOMO. I have no clue what EVK and SCKT even do. None whatsoever. I do know that I made great money on both of them on Thursday and Friday. I also know that I found them on the premarket movers list. I didn't care what they did. I waited for dips on a few stocks knowing I'd sell some at a loss and others at a big enough gain to make up for my losses. So I did. I bought them because the price gapped up. No other reason. I was one of a large number of people who do this. At some point, there is a dump.
Pump and dumps seem credible because Dictionary Investing gurus tweeted that it's a takeover target for reasons (they don't know what the company does either, they just know the float size), and so did your favorite guru's $60/month Discord group.
Painting the tape doesn't require anything more than a gap up and some volume. It works especially well when you control someone else's money.
These are (usually) crimes. That people get away with it typically means lack of evidence or lack of interest. It's probably the latter most of the time. It's more effective to investigate brokers who do this because there is more money at stake. It is also likely easier to prove. Maybe Swamp Trading doesn't even realize that the mere mention of a stock with a low float can move it. They might be smart enough to not have stakes in some of the companies they mention. Maybe the other "gurus" who retweet each other don't either.
Still, it's likely just that no one at the SEC or elsewhere is all that worried about bagholders with $2000 accounts. Plus, the punishment is usually pretty minor. See: https://securityboulevard.com/2020/04/sec-suspends-coronavirus-stock-pump-n-dump-scammers
FINAL ASIDE:
None of these people are dumb enough to not realize they can move the market. So even if they are Jim Cramer and not holding shares in what they are shilling and never will, they know they can move it. They also know that other "gurus" can take advantage of it by continuing the pump. I'm not saying that's right or wrong. Just that they know.
Have a great night.

2020.10.24 23:56 kuramatd WTS Spartan Blades Harsey Folder 3.25" [B+]

Hey Swappers! Today I'm looking to move along this Spartan Blades Harsey Folder 3.25". I am on the hunt for one of the special edition full-sized Harsey Folders, so I thought I'd check out the small boy in the mean time and see how it compared to something like the Small Sebenza 31. I like it decently, but only really keep one knife on hand of each brand, and as I plan to order one of the full-sized 2020 Specials there's no need for me to keep this one, so it's a catch and release. Price includes all PayPal fees, full insurance, and priority shipping TYD. Will be mailed out Monday, 10/26/20.
Timestamp/Album
Spartan Blades Harsey Folder - 3.25" [B+] SV: $335 SPF
This knife was opened yesterday brand new, but I used it to cut a couple pieces of clear shipping tape for some packages I sent off to other swappers. Out of an abundance of caution, I'm rating it a B+. There are zero markings on the blade/scales. I have not adjusted, tuned, or disassembled anything. It has been opened and closed several dozen times just to smooth the opening/closing process. Will come in the original Spartan Blades box, to include the plastic baggie and the Spartan Blades sticker.

2020.10.24 23:41 CT_Phipps My review of the LET STREETS RUN RED backer copy 4.5/5

http://booknest.eu/reviews/charles/2080-letthestreetsrunred
LET THE STREETS RUN RED by Onxy Path Publishing is a collection of four Chronicles for Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition. It is a stretch goal from the 2018 Kickstarter for Chicago by Night 5th Edition, a book detailing the supernatural movers and shakers for the Windy City. Basically, for non-tabletop roleplaying gamers, it's a book of four adventures to play as vampires. I've been waiting for this book for a long time, specifically two years, and I'm extremely excited to finally get to dive into its complicated adventure hooks.
Obviously, you need a copy of Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition to run this book and it is set in the modern nights. Fans of previous editions of the game shouldn't have too much difficulty converting the adventures, though. The book makes mention of Touchstones, the Beckoning, and the Second Inquisition but none of these things are strictly essential for running any of the scenarios. Mortals that vampires care about, vampire hunters, and so on are all things that existed in prior editions after all.
The cities of Chicago and Milwaukee reflect changes to the setting but are these are not strictly rules base. Even the inclusion of the Ministry, formerly known as the Followers of Set, doesn't mean too much because this is still the Set-worshiping cult of evil version. Which is all a roundabout way of saying that people who don't like V5 might still get some benefit from picking this up. Even if you don't plan to set your game in the American Midwest, you can definitely use the NPCs and adventures as something to adapt for your home game.
The actual crunch in the book is somewhat limited but not absent either. There's some new Loresheets, some Tremere rituals, and a collection of interesting NPCs to spice up your chronicle. Fans of the original Forged in Steel characters from way back in 1st Edition will appreciate several of their characters make a return appearance. So do characters from Milwaukee by Night. Let the Streets Run Red is capable of being run as a series of four interlinked adventures but really they strike me as best run as standalone or separate Chronicles. There's no central villain or plotline like the One Ring to link them, just a general setting of the American Midwest. This is probably for the best as it's impressive the writers managed to account for as many roleplaying game possibilities as they did.
Indeed, one of the things that makes the book work is that it's actually like one adventure module and four mini-city books. It gives wide-open sandbox descriptions of haunted village Willerton, vampire police state Milwaukee, cult-ruled Indianapolis, and urban warzone Gary. In a real way, the book just presents the situation and characters before telling the players to do whatever comes naturally. This is probably the best way to make a World of Darkness adventure module.
Thoughts on individual sections:
Blood will Flow (fiction): The Wolf Pack continues to have a surprisingly robust life in fiction with this being a short story about how they were hunted by former Special Forces operative Duncan MacTavish. It has a surprisingly touching ending that reminds you that, sometimes, vampires do care about people other than themselves. I feel like it could have involved the Wolf Pack interacting more with the NPCs of the Chronicle and I would have especially loved seeing them deal with Walter Nash or Evelyn Stephens but you take what you can get.
Power Play (Chronicle): The player characters Touchstones are being blackmailed by someone who knows they're vampires. The players get recruited by Walter Nash, an eccentrically scummy Ventrue who is in the same boat, to track down the fool. My only regret is Walter is such an engaging character I really wished it was revealed he was behind the whole thing somehow. He really could be the next Lodin or La Croix with how much of an obnoxious yet charming ass he is. I feel like the ending could have used a bit more oomph too. Walter Nash is a lot more interesting an antagonist than "Redwood", who is the actual villain at the end and seems like a discount Jigsaw. Despite this, I loved the fact that it incorporates the Night's Cross from The Chicago Folio. They play only a small role in the chronicle but I hope they'll show up in future supplements as a Midwestern Society of Leopold. Despite my criticisms of the villain, this is probably the best of the Chronicles and the one I will adapt first to my home game.
The Dying Fields (Chronicle): The Children of the Corn, The Wicker Man (original only), and The Shadow over Innsmouth are all stories that depend on a central truism: small town people are evil. I can confirm this is true. We all worship ancient prehuman gods and commit acts of human sacrifice. The player characters find themselves trapped in a small town and, for once, aren't the biggest monsters around. I only wish they'd given some actual stats for the Harvest God, spoiling the mystery or not. I like the premise of this book but I honestly wonder if it will work with the fact the PCs are all horrifying superhuman monsters and the locals are mere mortal humans. Then again, the best part of Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines is the Oceanview Hotel that has you terrified by ghosts despite the fact you're a vampire. If I were to adapt this, I'd probably have the Harvest God contact the PCs and make offers to be their patron. It seems like a good part of any evil god story should be the temptation. I will say I love the NPCs in this one as the central villain is a deranged hippie New Ager and one of the local biker Anarchs is a an instagram influencer.
Innocence in Blood (Chronicle): A rich man's daughter goes to join an evil cult and said rich man hires a group of shady characters to bring her back. Yes, this classic plot to noir private eye classic Conan: The Barbarian by John Milinus. Except this time the rich man is the tyrannical ruler of a nation and the cult is the Followers of Set (wait, that was John Milinus' Conan the Barbarian too). Okay, you're supposed to rescue Prince Decker's childe from the Ministry cult she's joined. I really liked this one because both option suck and the players are stuck between bad choices. There's a lot of NPCs in these two cities from classic supplements of the past and I liked reading how they were updated for 2020. The two cities are also a great contrast with the city of Milwaukee safe for mortals but a hell for Kindred and the opposite in Indianapolis. Loved the update to Milwaukee and write-up for Indianapolis. My problem with this part of the book is the fact that it doesn't really present much in the way of third options like rescuing the girl to take to other Anarchs or how to talk her out of the evil cult she's joined. Still, it's essentially two mini-By Night books so I'm not going to complain too much.
Rusted Jungle (Chronicle): I'm going to admit this is the reason I backed the book. The update for Gary, Indiana is something that I've wanted since Dust to Dust. We've got updates to Allicia, Modius, Evelyn, Juggler, and Maxwell. There's a war going on for the city of Gary and there's a good question whether it's worth the battle from a Kindred perspective. My only regret is I think the climax could have been bigger with maybe a chance to lead your allies to slay the former Prince of Chicago. I liked this storyline because Gary is a classic Vampire: The Masquerade setting and this Chronicle provides enough material to play it as a full-scale Chronicle setting. There's plenty of hints here as to the fates of other characters like Danov, Lucian, Sullivan Dane, and Michael but nothing that's 100% finished. I kind of wish this section had been longer since I would have liked full write-ups on them as well. I think Evelyn is a much better Baron of Gary and leader of the Anarchs than Juggler, so I would have also liked some more conflict there. Weirdly, I also wish they'd included the Torch (Allicia's strip club from the Storyteller's Screen adventure) as a setting in Gary since that was the kind of obscure 1st Edition lore I would have liked to have seen updated.
NPCs: This is a great selection for some reasonably stated NPCs. One of the things that previous Editions had a problem with was that they were often far too overpowered to be useful. While I think some of the NPCs are too weak in V5, especially with the lack of 6+ Disciplines, these are much more useful for low-to-mid powered game. I also appreciated stat and character updates for both Modius and Juggler despite neither being interacted with in Rusted Jungle. All of the NPCs are interesting with my favorite being Gabriella, a Nosferatu Twitch streamer who is adapting to being a Hound for the Camarilla now. I also felt the updates to both Allicia and Evelyn Stephens were very well done. What's funny is this includes a collection of gamers, instagram followers, and even a LARPer who could easily be a coterie of geeky undead if all assembled together.
Loresheets: Loresheets have been one of my favorite editions of V5 since their implementation. Vampire: The Masquerade has one of the most complex and extensive lores in tabletop gaming and they allow you to become intimately connected to one element or another. I'm glad they included Modius and Juggler as well, though I think 4 points for Juggler as a Malwa is a bit much. I would have appreciated a little more in the way of Gary Loresheets with the fact that their police department is actively hunting vampires being something that I wished a Loresheet reflected. Another "missing" Loresheet that would have been interesting was a vampire connected to the Harvest God. That might not really fit with the Chronicle within as described but is something I would have loved to have seen done up.
Overall, this is a very solid supplement with a lot going for it. The book expands the representation of Vampire: The Masquerade with several LGBT characters and also pays homage to past editions of the game with numerous classic characters being brought into the modern age. The art of the book is gorgeous and really brings a lot of the characters to life. I think my favorite art pieces are Allicia, Modius (who no longer looks like a joke), Evelyn Stephens, and Keisha Phelps who are all things I'd just love to hang on my wall. This isn't a must-have, necessarily, but the adventures are some of the best I've read for the line and ones I'm definitely going to use.
9/10

2020.10.24 22:54 Alex_the_sage That Post About Hypervision Reminded Me of Something...

I wrote some books, under the pen-name John Coney, about a boy growing up in a mage Guild. (Rarity: First Lessons Learned) & (Rarity: In The Lands of Men). Among other things, I redesigned many of the classic fantasy tropes, including dwarves; creating the hordun.
Then I tried to generate racial templates for the hordun, based on the second book. Most of it was easy. Average height about 3' tall, with naturally tough skin of DR 3 or 4. Reduced need for (or consumption of) oxygen. Humans are not comfortable visiting their tunnels, what with the 5' ceilings (why would a people only 3' tall have ceilings higher than that?).
Harder to describe in GURPS terms were things for which I can't find rules-equivalents in this game system. For instance, a healthy hordun, all of 3' tall, would normally weigh 150-200 lbs. In the game of Champions, that's called Density Increase. How would you do it in GURPS? And then there's hordun vision...
Hordun eyesight doesn't use visible light as we understand it. They have a modified kind of Dark Vision (with color) for which I charge no points since its drawbacks pay for it. Visible light is blinding to them on a scale inverse to our own. In darkness so complete as to put humans at -10, the hordun see normally. Where we are at -8, they are at -2 (from the glare). Where things are dim enough to put us at -3, the glare is bad enough to put them at -7. And a normally lit room for us has them blinded to -10. So, if you go sneaking into hordun tunnels, don't expect to find any torches or candles or lanterns, and know that you're alerting all hordun to your presence by their smell.
Oh and they DO have a way of navigating our world in daylight: thianka. The hordun equivalent to sunglasses, thianka are made from thin pieces of completely opaque marble, which not only allow them to see in full daylight but also protect their eyes from the toxic effects of solar radiation (which turns their eyeballs to stone).
Oh, yes, and direct sunlight petrifies hordun skin, not all of their flesh, causing "carrankor," their version of sunburn. Much more likely to hemorrhage. If a shirtless hordun is ever caught in full daylight, the carrankor of his torso would lock him into a stone prison, where he would suffocate from the inability to draw air into his lungs. Anybody handy with a Stone To Flesh spell?
There's more but I think that's enough for now.

2020.10.24 22:05 Danneales ILPT Get cheap sushi from self checkout in grocery stores.

When you arrive at the grocery store go find fruits/veg that are priced by the pound. For example $1.25 per lb. Memorize the number on the little sticker on the fruit ex. 4116. Pick out a few trays of sushi that you like then when you arrive at self check out carefully set it onto the scale being careful to not scan the sushi over the scanner. Then you quickly select the option on the screen for vegetables by weight. Punch in the number then it will weigh your sushi and the price will be for the weight of the fruit. Pay the reduced price bag and then walk out it’s as easy as that! Obviously this works for other items as well. Enjoy!

2020.10.24 21:21 RedditTotalWar An Evaluation of BG3's Map Design (and the Narrative Issues it Causes)

IMO, the BG3 EA has been an excellent experience and the game beaming with potential. Given the name, it might be a genre defining RPG. With that in mind, I think the worldbuilding and map design, for a potential genre-defining game must be evaluated closely. In a game with exploration, these elements are just as much a part of the story as the plot-quests and companions.
This is sort of the "but what do they eat?" test (FYI you can create magic food in D&D) - where you look at the world and see if how its designed is suitable for its inhabitants and their needs, and the feelings it invokes. My thoughts on the things that stood out to me below:

The Map is Huge, But The World Feels Small
The "theme park map" design of BG3 gives us a huge map to play with, but ironically creates a diminished sense of world scale because everything is packed together. Everything is a few minutes away from each other - a sacred Druid Grove, a Goblin Camp, a Road-side Estate.
Compare the "full-map" to Port Maje in Pillars 2 or Athkatla in BG2. The actual playable area is smaller, but the overworld-map design command a sense of scale. I understand Larian's desire to create a "theme park" philosophy from a gameplay perspective, but the setting is suffering for it. A clear solution is outside of my pay-grade, but it's something I hope Larian takes into consideration.

How Did Our NPCs Get Here?
Please reference the following crappy map
The northern entry way (Risen Road) appears to be the only road into this area that does not point west towards Baldur's Gate. Because of the "everything is on the map" design philosophy, there's nowhere to "hide" any flaws. The current map design conflicts with the consistency of the plot and the logistical needs our NPCs.

The blighted village in particular blocks the logical pathways for a few of our NPCs:
Edited: It looks like The Goblins likely got to the Blighted Village after the Tieflings have settled.
*She technically doesn't need to go through the village like the refugees, but still need to pass by very close each night

Another minor point, but these details add up:
Edited: People have made great points that it's not guaranteed these fishermen are from Baldur's Gate, and could just be from a village nearby.

The "Hidden" Druid Grove
Because of how close everything is, it's also hard to believe that the Druid Grove is actually hidden. Aside from proximity, the gates are also highly visible (giant wooden door). This directly undermines the evil quest chain and some of the core quest logic.
Perhaps an adjustment to the plot, or some visual updates is required. E.g. the Goblins know the location, but can't breach it. It'll give an evil PC's role more importance and give Kagha's lockdown argument more weight. I know Larian is already looking to update the Evil Campaign, so I won't go deep into this one.

Analysis like these can be a bit nitpicky, but when little details like these can compound to truly enhance the story and world if done right, or become a nagging sense of flaw if left unaddressed. What are your thoughts? Did you notice anything else? Have I missed something that might justify the above?

TL;DR - The map design of BG3 makes the world feel smaller, and some aspects even contradict the quest narratives and our NPCs needs.

2020.10.24 21:20 CoreyTrevor94 WTS Customized Spydercos, Customized Benchmade, Cold Steel

Hey everyone, thanks for checking out my knives. I'm getting rid of some previous daily driveusers that are pretty awesome but just don't get used much anymore and want to pass them along. There are some imperfections with a few so please make sure you read and look at photos before purchasing. All prices include shipping in the US and PayPal fees. No trades please.
http://imgur.com/a/yLUAE45
First is the Spyderco Para 3 in s30v (C). This knife also comes with the box, original black G10 scales, and pocket clip. I put a pair of Ripp's Garage Tech denim micarta scales on it and did the skinny mod myself with the dremel. Put a lynch deep carry clip on it as well. Basically the perfect para 3 imo. Has been carried, used, disassembled, and sharpened. You'll notice some shiny spots along the edge. This was from my dumbass trying to learn the Lansky sharpening system and screwing up the angle. Fortunately it does not seem to impact the functionality of the blade as it slices paper and glides through cardboard still. Action is great on the compression lock with some very slight side to side play. Used to have lock stick but a little sharpie and use seems to have worked itself out.
Asking $180 for this one
http://imgur.com/a/vL3TGAN
Next up is the Spyderco Lil Native in s30v (C). I bought this "used" but basically bnib minus the box. Swapped out the G10 for some RC Bladeworks Burlap Micarta scales that have taken a nice patina. Action is awesome and knife falls closed. There's some very slight side blade play I can't seem to get rid of but it's not noticeable unless you're looking for it. Knife has been sharpened on the Sharpmaker. Also gave it a choil with the dremel.
Asking $150 for this one
http://imgur.com/a/keVbRfz
Third is going to be the Benchmade Bugout in s30v (D?). Comes with the original box, blue scales, and an extra set of omega springs. This bugout is wearing some Aimfront aluminum scales. The blade was acid and stonewashed by me and sharpened on the Lansky rod system at 20°. I carried and used this knife quite a bit so there is a bit of wear on the scales and the pocket clip. Action is great and there is no blade play. The only issue with this knife is that one of the standoffs is either too gummed up in the threads or has been stripped out, as the screw fell out and won't go back in. Hasn't caused any issues, everything still feels structurally solid. Unfortunately benchmade won't sell standoffs but I think you buy some aftermarket ones if it bothers you.
Asking $105 for this guy. [SOLD]
http://imgur.com/a/ngB0HBj
Finally, the Cold Steel Counter Point 1 with AUS10A steel (B). Bought this impulsively just because I thought it was cool, and it is but I don't use it. Hasn't been carried, sharpened, or disassembled. Never carried, just used to stab a few boxes when I first got it because you basically have to with this thing.
Asking $50 for this one.

All prices below include shipping. Add 3% if paying with G&S. Paypal only.
Lanshan 2P 3 Season (38oz) $105; Comes with the stuff sack. I think it is a drybag also? Used for about 10 trail nights. The normal weight is 40 ounces, but I replaced some of the overbuilt lines and hardware with thinning ones to save weight. The peak guyouts also have the hardware removed in favor of Skurka knots for ease of pitching. It has some trail dust on there but no other defects. Have also seam sealed the 2 mid panel guy out locations. Does not come with original stakes since I bent most of them or am using them for my other tents/tarps.
Newest Nemo Tensor RW Regular Wide Insulated (19.5OZ) $135; Newest version and comes with vortex pump sack, original box, and repair kit. Everything is pictured on scale but it is tared out. The 19.5OZ is ONLY for the sleeping pad. Used for 3 nights. No issues with the pad. I sleep like shit anyways so decided to sleep like shit on a torso length pad and save some weight.
MYOG Wind Pants (1.69oz) $25 : Made these too slim. I wear size 30-31 pants and have a 29.5-30 inseam. 5'7" @ 162 lbs (I is a dude). I wouldn't purchase these unless you are are about 10% less in measurements than me. Made from Uncal HyperD 1.1oz from RSBTR. I have made a total of 6 pairs and this is pair number 4 that I made. I normally bring 2 pairs. One as an active layer and one as a sleep layer in case the active one gets wet. It dries out super fast as long as u are moving and it isn't 100% humidity. Great warmth piece for the weight! One of my best looking ones but note that i am not a professional seamstress.
Men 9.0 Salomon SpeedCross 3 (22.75OZ) $70: Worn for 1 tough mudder event. Still much life left in these
Women 7.5 Altra Superiors 4 (16.01OZ) $75: Worm for 6 trail nights. Too small for the wife as she normally wears a size 8.0 in Altras (0.5 up from normal shoes). Plenty of tread and life left. These are more minimal than the popular lone peaks to save weight. I don't think it has a rock plate.
Men Large Rab Wind Jacket (4.87OZ) $40: Worn 4 nights and have since swapped to a Patagonia Houdini. No defects. Has pockets compared to most barebone wind jackets.
https://www.campsaver.com/rab-wind-jacket-men-s.html
Women's XL MyTrailCo Hoodless (8.54OZ) $75: Worn for 2 trail nights. Inner pocket for stuffing jacket zipper removed to save weight and improve pack ability. Nothing wrong with it. Just didn't fit me as I don't have childbearing hips (i'm a guy).
Women's Salomon Gaiters (1.59OZ) $15: Worn for 12 trail days and have since switched to MYOG gaiters.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073X1CPH6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Will entertain offers if items aren't moving as quickly as I would like. Not in a big rush to sell anyways. Just doing some winter cleaning. Thanks for looking!

2020.10.24 21:05 Tjstretchalot [META] Upcoming LoansBot Major Version Release - 11/07/2020

Hello Users,
A major rewrite of the LoansBot infrastructure has been underway since February this year. This is a complete rewrite to match the increased scale and complexity of loans which take place on this subreddit and take advantage of technological improvements since the current major version of the LoansBot was written in 2014. These changes are expected to go live in 2 weeks - November 7th, 2020.
This release is intended to be feature-compatible with the existing LoansBot for every endpoint for which there are any users, with very few exceptions. At a technical level many of these features have been rewritten, but the application programming interface maintains strong backwards compatibility for the next 6 months, gradually forcing developers to update to newer endpoints over the next 42 months. For those interested in the technical changes, feel free to browse the web backend source code, in particular the legacy section. Any endpoint slug in the legacy section has detailed documentation, transition guides, and an outline of the exact sunsetting schedule via the website. For example, see these docs the existing login endpoint.
Users can expect the following release day:
Here are the change highlights:
There are many more improvements (logging, horizontal scalability, caching, docs, ..!) made over the course of this release. I appreciate the 7 years so far and am looking forward to the next 7 years with this community. If you're able and willing, the new infrastructure was made possible from the Patreon support. Alongside keeping the bot running, you will get occasional early access to announcements and prioritized responses to issues.

2020.10.24 20:35 Emanresubmudyllaer Verum Weekly: Summary of Streamed Games of the Week (October 22nd, 2020)

Hail Travelers,
Welcome to Verum Weekly. A weekly post to summarize all the game sessions that happen in the week prior. Hope y'all like it.

Friday
The Tearing Veil Ep. 3 (SootheBe11)
The session starts with the crew landing on the dock of Flameport and getting off the ship. The captain gave the party 200 gold with which Flamewrath, Nidhogg, and Vim argue about who gets to be the treasurer for the group. Eventually, they agreed to let Flamewrath hold the money. As the party walks down the docks, towards the city, they are approached by a guard covered in plated armor with the symbol of glory on the chestplate, a greatsword swung on his back, and a crowned helmet.
The paladin asks the party as to why such a peculiar group has come upon the city, to which Wisp answers that they are the traveling circus, and the others begin to elaborate more on the lie with Vim calling them the Unwise Six. The paladin lets them through, but Flamewrath notices that he does not buy their lie and so he pulls the group over to the side of the docks and explains to them that they must be inconspicuous conduct a circus.
Vim and Flamewrath are the first to separate from the group, going into the town to look for a blacksmith. They finally find one named “The Edge Ahead”, they both enter and Vim asks for a heavy shield with a spider emblem on the front and Flamewrath attempts to bargain, but in the end, Flamewrath just gives the blacksmith the gold originally agreed on, and tells him to go to their show in the most famous tavern. Meanwhile, Wisp and Raber enter into an enormous building named the Fire Flower which looks very lavish and over the top. Wisp proceeds to go through the tables, listening in on conversations and learning that there is a bit of a worried stance on the cities government, hags near the northwestern coast stealing children and beguiling men, and a local rumor that Fireport has been dealing with an increase in crime. Wisp skillfully moves through the crowds of drunkards and onto a clearing where she performs a graceful dance as Raber attempts to join in by picking up Wisp and for a moment, the two look in sync. Suddenly Raber throws Wisp into the ceiling of the roof, stumbles, and Wisp falls back down onto Raber, the people in the lavish tavern laugh and throw gold coins at them for their performance. The two exclaim that they are the ‘Unwise Six” and to watch their show.
A gnome approaches Wisp and Raber, applauding them and letting them sit at a table where they eat and learn that the town’s people has eerie whispers in their minds, wars on the east, the north’s corruption, the gnome’s name is Ano and is a priest of Vavren, and that O’brian, their contact, has been imprisoned because of his promiscuity. As this is happening, Nidhogg and Angorn agree to find the most inconspicuous tavern and gain information there; as they walk the streets of Fireport they encounter a deep, dark, brooding man named Alexander Night that takes them towards the less crowded tavern called The Beggar’s Rest.
As the edgy trio walks, Nidhogg and Angorn learn that the paladin of Glory they met is just an aspirant to be in the inquisition and that Alexander is a cool guy that follows the Goddess Iass. The trio part ways and Angorn and Nidhogg enter the tavern arguing about Gods, they proceed to seat themselves as they talk and after a while, no one seems to approach them. Angorn spots an old halfling woman and walks up to her, asking her where everybody else is, the old halfling says that they all are scared of them because of the armor they are wearing and the way they present themselves. Nidhogg approaches the halfling, and wonders why they are afraid of them so he proceeds to assist her in fixing the roof. The old halfling then begins to dote on the two heavily armored individuals, treating them as if they were her own grandchildren.
On the other side of town near the blacksmith, Flamewrath and Vim are trying to figure out what circus act they could perform and proceed to put out flyers by prestidigitation. The two begins to walk near a crowded street where they show off their skills, using Flamewrath’s firebolts and Vim’s prestidigitation to do an impromptu fire show, where they gained gold coins and spread the word of the Unwise Six’s performance in the Fire Flower. The two proceeded to get Vim’s shield and move toward the tavern to meet up with the rest of the group, practicing and making posters along the way.
Flamewrath, Vim, Wisp, and Raber meet outside of the Fire Flower, discussing about the information that they have gotten and their upcoming circus acts. They proceed down the streets to look for Angorn and Nidhogg, but instead encounter Alexander who takes them to The Beggar’s Rest where they regroup with everyone. The team learns of the information about O’Brian and the performance that they must do to bolster their lie. As they proceed to go to the Fire Flower, Nidhogg breaks away from the group and goes to the graveyard where he meditates and listens to the souls that lie in rest.
Nidhoggg suddenly hears the voice of the Gambler Black telling him that if it's the power to eat souls that he wants, then all he needs to do is to roll a black die in front of holy places, Nidhoggg agrees and a soul is given to him as his body surges with power and he regroups with the party at the Fire Flower. The party proceeds to persuade the innkeeper to let them conduct their circus acts with a cut of the gold they earn, the gang also conducted a push-up competition to see how intense and brotastic Alexander is, and they gave the people in the inn a great show. After the magnificent performance, everyone in the tavern learns of the group called the Unwise Six, and the party decides to go to jail to meet with O’Brian where as Nidhogg decides that it is time to go to the Beggar’s Rest to sleep in for the night. As the party meets O’Brian, they attempt to plan an escape for him, trying to figure out what the best course of action is, until they were told by the guard that the bail was just 5 gold and so the Unwise Six attains their informant and head out into dark misty night in Flameport.

Saturday
The Herald's Call Ep. 1
The party is gathered with two other individuals at the Golden Sun in Fireport. A Paladin of Glory comes in and introduces himself as Maxwell. As that Paladin comes to the table, the party notices that his symbols of Glory have been marked out. Maxwell explains that they have been summon to the Ember Lord because they have potential. The party leaves the tavern and are led to an abandon estate in the forests. Maxwell opens a hatch in a well and they enter a secret base. The place is walled in cement and blood stains are riddle everywhere. Maxwell tells the desk lady in front of them that he has a new set of aspirants and the party is led to the Ember Lord. Screams can be heard in rooms nearby. The party finally enters a room to find a hooded man named Jaxon.
Jaxon explains that he is trying to create beings to fight against the Herald. He continues that they are trying to find those who can handle the Orange Star and the screams and bloodstains are from the failures. The party would like to know more but Jaxon is hesitant as he knows that the enemy feeds on knowledge. Jaxon does tell the party that the Orange Star is part of the Prism. Jaxon asks what is needed for them with the Orange Star and Jaxon answers that the embers of the Orange star can light the weapons in the soul and great power can come out of it. Jaxon tells everybody to follow him if they are willing or they can leave. The party and others follow him and they are led to the infirmary. The meet Professor Soken and he will be monitoring his transformation. On the table beside Soken is a corpse that was melted from the inside. Midas asked why the corpse is like that and the Professor says he doesn't know but has done everything he can to stop it. Only few have past the test and the Professor will do everything he can to prevent more failures. Jaxon reveals that he was awaken by the orange star because the red star has been revealed.
The party is then taken to another room and Jaxon tells them that this place is where the test will happen. Midas finds a contraption in that room that keeps a person with violet blood in a stasis of amber. Soken explains that it is to delay the transformation. The asks what the transformation is and Jaxon answers that this trial is trying to create a "False Refraction". One last time, the Ember Lord asks if they are ready and everybody agrees.
Archael volunteers to goes first; Soken puts metal ropes around him and Jaxon regurgitates an orange blob. Jaxon tells Archeal to drink it and Archeal does so. Intense pain flows through him but Archeal endures it and is bestow an ability. He gains the soulfire ability "Golden Crown" (Heal all allies surrounding him). Riku goes next and gains the soulfire ability "Flame Weald" (Touch and Enemy and cause fire damage). Ari goes after; she loses her eyesight but gains "Soul Sight" (Sight of the Lifestream). Ari looks at Jaxon with her new sight and see his true form. She see Jaxon severely burned with only one arm; all around is body is scarred with an orange star. Jaxon puts his hand on Ari and her sight focuses a little bit; Soken gives her glasses to control her new ability. One of the two NPCs step up but sadly, could not handle the trial. Her soul is gone and her body is just a husk. Azylea goes and gains "Crash Down" (Cause earthquake that can prone nearby enemies). Zada steps up next and gains "Power Font" (Can restore one soulfire ability). Midas gains "Lost Whispers" (Auto-success on one Martial Check).
The last trial is then conduct to the second NPC. However, as Jaxon holds the orange blob, the NPC stabs the ember lord. Maxwell kills her as a reaction. Ari checks the body of killer and she finds orders. The orders say that to kill with poison and the antidote is at their HQ. In her boot, there seems to be a map to that base. Maxwell then orders the party to find the antidote and they leave.

Shadow of Tyre Ep. 15 (RoyalCaster)
Asht, Toot, and Moe all enter the Library and each look for their own thing. Ahst reads about portals, Moe asks about power words, but it was restricted so he drops the subject and asks about possessions with Rixie in mind, and Toot asks about genesis seeds.
Ahst learns of a legendary ranger by the name of Icarus; legend says that, with his harmonica, he was able to walk through sunlight. It is said that Icarus was last seen at the Rotten Wound, a mountain range in the Badlands. It is also believed that if one wanted to be able to walk through portals then one can do so through the sun
Moe finds a book pertaining to possession and all of its forms. Moe reads about how nomadic half elves reinvisioned elven runes and formed them into dream catchers which are used to detect if someone is possessed or not. While diving deeper and trying to figure out how to make a dreamcatcher himself, Moe learns that dream catchers can act as protective bubbles the more intricate the design of the dream catcher the stronger the shield.
Toot researches where he could find genesis seeds. Reportedly found in the remnants in where the world tree once was deep within the rift. Reading on Toot looks for examples of usage of Genesis seeds it is rumored that genesis seeds are a concentration of manifested life stream and can used to produce amazing pieces of life, and had created the first races, it is also rumored that the once fertile soil of Kalkatesh was given life by the planting of the world seed which was larger than the rest and maybe more pure than other genesis seeds. Toots also learns that the Seed also has other uses such as reinvigorating lands by removing curses, creating a race by creating life, bringing someone back from the dead, and creating the most potent elixirs heard of.
Ahst returns back to the counter, inquiring of the Scrolls of Indicar. Once obtaining them Ahst reads that it speaks of ritual that needs five, in the center depicting an orange light it seems that the scrolls are instruction for something called “false refraction”
She finds a book about her very own changeling race and how the hags made changeling with the hopes in that by sending them out into the world to collect as many faces as possible before being returned to the hags, giving up their free will and turning into one of them again sacrificing themselves toward the coven and taking all of the faces, powers, refractions, and the essence they have reaped and bring them into the central of power, revealing the purpose hags have for changeling deeper in the book it reveals that Tomen is the brother of all changelings. Unknown to the hags in the attempt to develop methods to remain youthful and beautiful, they were actually working their way to creating refractions by sacrificing their own hag kind in the hopes that those who survive can continue their goal. Somehow in all their attempts they created Tomen, but the male Tomen isn’t affected by their rituals which are designed with the female hag body in mind and escaped while on the run he sheltered his fellow run away changeling sisters in the mirror realm until he was imprisoned.
Moe digs into ways to essentially exorcise spirits from the brain, and basically cleanse a person. He finds out about a material called soul stone which is rumored to be bones of Outsiders that has been grated and refined down to its base self, Moe reads that soul stone has the ability to contains souls with in them with the draining and the releasing of souls, in relation this material was used to create the Hakari’s armor. Moe finds that to get soul stones he must be able to find somebody who can summon Outsiders, or it is also rumored that the Vega have been known to make soul stones.
Woku leads Raost and Eustace to the library once the party regroups and asks Woku to instead take them to the Hall of Mirrors. The party asks for a possible tapestry room and Woku leads them there. Woku leaves them to themselves, and while in there Ahst feels some faint portal energy. Eustance and Moe look at the tapestry called a Strange Ship, and being pirates, they recognize the ship Unfortunate Circumstance which is owned by Red Eyes Raymond. Raost inspects the tapestry called the Astral Outpost and notices a strange symbol on it thinking it would be best to get Moe’s input on this Raost calls him over, but it seems that Moe isn’t able to truly recognize it for what it is. Thinking that it might have something to do with portals, he asks Ahst to come look at the tapestry and this is when Ahst can detect that the symbol on the portal grants access to a powerful, perfect portal that takes them to the Twilight Station. Figuring this out Toot feels a burst of power come from his breaking free of his eye patch but quickly covering it with his wing in time, resisting the pull of the enemy. Focusing Toot is able to ask the enemy a question on it’s retreat, and asks “why do you keep attacking us?”
For a brief moment there is no Toot, there is no Kenku, there is no violet eye. Toot’s soul sees a vision. Falling past the deconstruction of 5 towers, and the great wheel with the great implication of traveling to the past. The soul is projected into the body of a man toiling away, catching the glance of his significant other, but violet light shatters the memory filling the man with hate and rage. Now at the edge, the emotion of pure malice and thirst for the destruction fuels him to destroy all so that he can finally be at peace.
Toot is shaken awake by Ahst. Toot comes too with more questions in his mind. He shakes his head, and denies Raost by meaning to say “toot stop” but actually says the words “I saw things” he actually speaks and crumbles in confusion and stupor. The Kenku Curse has been replaced by a curse from the violet to be able to speak through Toot at a chance whenever Toot speaks. Toot begins to explain but it is cut off by Moe trying to rush the out, before they leave Ahst takes a look at the tapestry, but notices there is a point of violet light in the painting which surely wasn't there before. Ahst and Raost decides that given the change of circumstances they want to take it with them, but Moe is against taking it with them given that things on them are at peril. While they are arguing Eustace receives a message from the vizier in his head that the camp is under attack. Once they head on their way they run into Woku out there and ask if they help them at the camp, and they decide to leave the tapestry here at the town.

Broken Bonds Ep. 12 (RoyalCaster)
The Empress of the Shadow Fell teleports the party to Dolton in the North Western part of forest that surrounds the crimson citadel.
While arriving at the forest they make their way through the forest Ea’r finds a tree with fruit being held by a branch hand. Nox determines it's fine to eat so Ea’r eats the whole thing. Ea’r steps up to a flesh tree and sees a face in the tree and notices something shine in the mouth of the face. She puts a fruit in the mouth of the face and it splits the fruit, seeing that the party looks for a rock to put in the mouth, but the mouth still shatters the rock. Ea’r wants to speak to the tree that the face is on, and the tree only communicates one word “pain”. Ea’r asks what they could possibly do to help but it only wails in agony. Ear pets the tree, and the tree moans “peace”. P’mis decides to cast mage hand to reach in and grab the shining object and retrieve a diamond.
Next to the tree there is a pile of corpses piled on top of something possibly cocoon, or an egg. The party deliberates what could possibly be under the corpses. They decide to clear the pile and they find a swollen larva. Ea’r picks up the 3ft long maggot, and it splits open. A skull comes squirming out plopping on the floor, displaying a skeletal corpse with entrails lined along it’s bones. It reaches out to Ea’r and the Mohrg recognizes the true kindness, once it rises it speaks directly to Ea’r asking who had awakened him. Ea’r admits it was her thinking that honestly that it’d be a butterfly or something she asks that what they are. They say that they are the tender of graves, one of two of rot and pain, but he has forgotten, and Ea’r taking the Mohrg’s visage she calls him Zorro. The Mohrg says that for releasing him such things must be recompressed. Assuring that this is something Ea’r does want as a final precaution. The Mohrg places its hand on Ea’r forehead. Ea’r is turned into the assistant of the guardian of the prism, and takes the role of a shrine maiden. Her blue watery hair turns into black viscous ichorus goo, her eyes get the symbol of the shrine maiden around her pupil, she gets a golden sash, and a glove with a black onyx shard with the powers of undeath. Upon finishing the ritual on Ea’r. the Mohrg says he needs to find the other, and once he reconvines with the other the prism must be completed, the enemy must be stopped and the traitor must pay the price. Ea’r agrees to help him.
Nox suddenly remembers a question she had for the group, and asks about a two headed white snake, the group laughs about her asking and Bryan summons Tomen. Wondering about why she inquired about him she claims that she had a vision and asked for insight from him, and Tomen says that the this has come to pass because the pieces are falling into place, and that things are coming into fruition and that she needs to stay vigilant with her task of keeping the violet eyes safe, as shadows of the enemy will soon be at their footsteps.
Upon arriving at the entrance of the Crimson Citadel, two night guards question the party as to what business they have there. They tell them that Bryan is an aspirant, and so they go to check with the Night Lord, given the okay, the guards let the party into the citadel. Once they make it inside they are greeted by Lenon Attorix. He leads the party into the inner fortress, he says that before any aspirants can be accepted they need to be inspected by the Night Lord. They stand before and the Night Lord requests who the Aspirant is and Byran presents herself, they converse about previous attempts at joining the citadel, and hopes that Bryan will have the conviction that those lacked, he gives his blessing and wishes Bryan luck. As a woman of logic she frees herself of the thoughts her self worth is attacked by the shadows, and her confidence is able to keep the shadows at bay, and passes the test of the Mind. finally at the final test the very essence of the citadel isolates bryan in the endless night, the shadows seek to severe bryan’s soul from her body, and they achieve it, her soul detached drag her soul away from her body but Bryan’s soul reaches out and pulls back into herself, and Bryan steps out of shadow as a Night Guard.

Secrets in the Stone Ep. 11, FINALE (av5hadow)
The party returns to the pocket existence they were in during the last session, this time bringing the Hatter Mad and Laffy Taffy with them. When they arrive back, they introduce Taffy to One of Two who asks if she is ready. Taffy resolves herself as it is the purpose of every translator to bear knowledge and translate it so that others will understand what they need to do. Her order has existed for at least two iterations, and she hopes that this time, it will be successful. She asks One of Two if he will tell them, and he believes that there is enough Order.
He tells the party that they are not the only piece of their life and informs them of Yggdrasil, the tree of life. He informs them that the world is a great wheel that has never been able to complete its turn as a wrongness prevents it. This wrongness wields the traitorous, the most powerful, and the most unpredictable color of the Prism. One of Two says believes it is time to reveal the secret of the stone in this iteration and pulls out the Prism. Through the Prism, where thought, want, and memory are made, the seven colors are created. In the first iteration, there was a great conflict, and seven stood up. Each one was a color, but one became a traitor. He then guesses that the party wonders about the Prism and will then answer that query.
The soul is made up of life and will. Life is energy while will is the Prism. When the party looks into the prism, they see the emotions that make up a person. They also see themselves in their most basic parts and in different colors.
When the Violet turned traitor, the colors scattered. Before the colors rallied back together, most of the world of the first iteration was lost. The colors seeked to seal the Violet, and so they did. However, it turns out that the traitor was sealed by a traitor of itself. One of Two will ask The Seven (Sivelle) for the name of this traitor. Sivelle says it was “Ventil” (+3 Order). One of Two reveals that when something is sealed, it must be done so by its ilk. So only a traitor can seal a traitor. With each iteration, there must always be a betrayal to buy time to defeat the Enemy. This iteration’s traitor, Tyre, leaves hints for the heroes of Kalkatesh in his labyrinth.
The Enemy’s side gets stronger while those that oppose it are growing weaker. He believes that this iteration would be the last. At the same time, the heroes must allow the Wheel to turn without destroying it. However, it is believed that this is nearly impossible. Right now, it appears that the events from the last iterations are repeating again, and One of Two implies that this iteration will meet the fate of the previous iterations. One of Two will place the Prism on a pedestal and tap it. A rainbow appears in it, and it begins to play the Song of Creation (Lumina).
During the speech, the following is revealed. For every color, there is a guardian. One of Two is the guardian of Blue. The Great Wheel is sectioned by the 7 colors. However, the Violet section is missing. Each time the Wheel cannot complete its turn, it is threatened to be shattered. Each time, the people of the iteration have reset the wheel, only providing a brief moment of peace. The heroes must break this cycle to save the world. To do so, the torch bearers must take up their place, the guardians of the prism must be awakened, and all of Kalkatesh must give it their all.
One of Two senses that his brother has been awakened, but he states that the other guardians are still asleep. He will then turn to Taffy, asking her to fulfill her purpose as Translator, and he allows the PCs to choose which color they will seek. (The players have chosen to go with the Yellow Square as it has no progress. Out of the two campaign choices, they have chosen to enter the “quadrinox” / the big cube, and this campaign is about salvaging powers from the past iterations. This involves the Obituary Towers).
Yellow Squares appear in Taffy’s eyes as she writes instructions on parchment. As she writes, the violet affects her and begins to appear on the parchment. One of Two stops her before any significant is written, but Violet cracks appear on her. but One of Two tells them that it is in Violet's nature to destroy. Ulm and Gorrul hugs Taffy. Elwood asks if this will happen to Dusty. One of Two that it is the fate of all Translators, as it is their purpose to translate knowledge. He will craft a crystalline face of Taffy. This face is similar to those seen on the orb of spirits which is One of Two’s way to keep the memory of all translators. The Hatter Mad asks if she can do anything, but One of Two tells her that she has a significant role in the conflict as she has the freedom of movement. He says that there is only one other who has the same freedom, the guardian of the Red Star. Taffy places her hat on the ground and thanks the party. Ulm picks up and hugs the hat, and the party says their farewells before she turns into dust. Ulm’s violet eye flashes towards the other PCs, allowing them to remember Taffy.
The party takes the parchment and shows it to Hatter Mad who exhibits shock. She does regain her composure then take a look at the parchment which has instructions on how to create a portal to a certain destination. She changes and scales Taffy’s hat and places it on Ulm. Gorrul asks One of Two about the watch from Babylon. He says that it is a Timekeeper’s Piece, an artifact that can literally keeps time. It can be used to accelerate or slow down time The Hatter Mad will create a portal, and the party jumps in.

Heart of Tyre Ep. 13 (av5hadow)
In the last session, the party is assisting their fellow Top member, Ives, in the Indigo test. They are fighting against the Steel Storm who had just killed Seren. Mad Morc rushes up to Seren and gives her a Greater Potion of Healing before smacking the Storm a few times. Freshly revived, Seren finally plants down her healing Sakura tree.
Ives, who is in the Storm Veil area effect, leaves moves towards the Storm, as at the start of the Storm’s next turn, the Veil damages all enemies before dissipating. Derok asks the Storm a couple of questions but receives a minimal response. The Storm takes down Seren again. Morc martial checks the removal conditions for each of the three effects conditions of this fight: Pierced, Broken, and Prone. The reason he does so is that two effects debuff the character, and the Storm’s attacks may inflict these debuffs. As Seren is in the healing area of the tree, she gets back up. She identifies Pulsing Bolt, a bonus action attack that targets the furthest enemy. The Tops sends the Shadow Demon away from the battle to mitigate the Pulsing Bolt.
Neve identifies Execution Strike which can 1HKO an enemy with all three status effects. Wild Magic Sorcerer Derok learns that an Indigo event occurs if the amount of spells he uses reaches beyond an unknown threshold (This overrides Wild Magic Surge.). By the time it is the Storm’s turn, it will use Fighting Spirit to heal itself by a lot. It initiates a martial clash with Derok Dranf. Derok loses the clash, and his hammer is knocked away from the fight. Surrounded, The Storm then uses the Storm Veil, which covers everyone but the Shadow Demon. Seren leaves the Veil.
Derok identifies FOR DABORAK, an ability that can activate at 10% HP. (the Storm may initiate a martial clash against all enemies within 30 feet. With each success, it heals 10%. If it loses more than it wins, then the Storm is defeated.) Derok retrieves his hammer with a Misty Step and moves back to whack the Storm. Storm Veil goes off, hitting Ives, Morc, and Neve. The Storm strikes Morc down, but the Relentless Morc gets back up. Seren attempts to Wild Shape. However, the Storm uses Grand Charge, a reaction whose trigger is non-attack ability, to charge towards and attack Seren. Surprisingly, Seren survives and Wild Shapes into a direwolf.
Neve and Ives learn of the details of both Attack and Defensive Stances. At this point, the party has identified all abilities, so they start learning about the tactics. Enduring Cry, an ability that is able to remove one debuff, will end the Storm’s turn if it is used outside of its Defensive Stance. Derok casts Shield to defend himself from an attack, but the Indigo Event Threshold has been reached. An empowered event is rolled, and the randomized target is the Storm. Derok uses the Wild Magic Negator (from an NPC during the Maw of Abbadon) to cancel the event. At this point, the Storm is roughly 25% HP. The Storm uses Thunderous Step, a teleportation ability, to go after the Shadow Demon. Morc chases as Seren wild shapes into an octopus.
Derok senses the confidence the Storm has in ending the fight soon. He kills that confidence with Hold Person. The Veil goes off, killing Seren, despite her Wild Shape. The Steel Storm uses Enduring Cry to remove Hold Person, but that’s all it does in this round as it is not in its Defensive Stance. Seren, revived by her tree, puts him back with her own Hold Person.
Neve lands a Chill Touch, preventing the Storm from healing. The Storm uses Enduring Cry to remove its paralysis and end its turn. Morc attacks, and the Storm is now under 10%, ready to use FOR DABORAK. With the help of Derok’s Bend Luck, Seren uses Hold Person, paralyzing the Storm again. Ives flies over the Storm, and after missing a shot, he dives down with his knife, hitting the Storm. With the help of Bend Luck, Derok then hits the Storm twice, defeating the Scorn Lord of Dabarok.
The Neverend shows up and restores the party to their full health. Seren attunes to her Fire Shield again. The next fight parameters are the following: Humanoid Ranger. Ban Spellburn and Humiliate. A phantasmal airship fades in from the infinite void, and a man with a fancy hat and a scimitar arrives on the scene. Alleo Ad’daire, the Skylord and the husband of Starcaller Minthis, a" still living" Seven, is the Top’s next opponent

Soul of Tyre Ep. 12
The Waiting Weird stands as Hackne falls to the ground scarred from violet flames and with her party watching in horror. Ozzie's martial learns that "Coward's Price" that if its targeted enemy has the "Mark of the Herald" and are not adjacent to it, the Waiting Weird can attack all adjacent enemies to that target and happens in the Wrath initiative. Ozzie then summons a chain of wolves to drag Hackne's body away from the Waiting Weird.
Luckily, from the aid of the heroes of Kalkatesh, Order is increased and a new shadow enters the fray. Two order is expended and Mirage from Strange Roads join the fight. However, the Waiting Weird takes initiative. The speaker teleports away from the rest of the party and tries to end Hackne's soul. As it reaches down with the violet flames, a shadow of a seven appears. The Seven Stephan uses all its might and saves Hackne from the violet's grip. However, to save one soul, the seven must sacrifice its own and the shadow of the seven disappears from this world in the violet light (Thank You Drspanky for your service). With catastrophe temporarily averted, Belanovan notices that Mirage can empower a Guardian. The Siren explains that she is a chord and she can empower those related to the lifestream. (But because Mirage can only empower on her turn,) Belanovan rushes to Hackne's side and gives a potion of greater healing to weaken "The Pyre". He rushes away to set up Braktor's weaver heal. In Braktor's turn, He gives a triumphant speech and casts 'Weaving Light" on Hackne and Belanovan. The Pyre on Hackne is broken and she manages to escape death's door. Braktor then learns that The Pyre is considered a curse and can be removed but the Herald's Mark is not. The Waiting Weird nuke AoE ability activates downing Ozzie and Braktor loses concentration of "Solarity" which gives Gruff and Belanovan exhaustion. The speaker then summons a rift. Yojimbo turns to Braktor and asks if he should either attack the speaker or heal the translator and Vizier. Braktor informs him to heal the two downed NPCs and Yojimbo rushes to them and stabilizes the Vizier.
The violet energy falters and all the order is expended to summon the final set of reinforcements. The Shadow of Tyre party enters the initiative (half of them though). Hackne learns that 'The Rift" stops any teleportation in a certain radius and summons additional acolytes. She then disengages from the speaker and shouts to Braktor. Hackne exclaims that after all of this, they should get married. Mirage learns that "The Rift" radius is 10ft. She then empowers Belanovan giving him the "Freedom Stance" and heals Ozzie. Ozzie transforms Hackne into a T-rex and flys away. Eustace tells Ahst that "Operation Wet Willie is a go" and runs to the beach; Ahst follows. The speaker summons an Orb of Admonishment which downs Braktor. It then teleports to Ozzie to finish him off. Again, another soul is on the brink of violet death and again, another seven sacrifice their soul to save them (Thank you Nurp for your service). While his other party members run the other way, Moe uses a power word to increase his movement and run into combat. He uses another power word to heal Braktor and rushes to Yojimbo to help the downed NPCs. Unfortunately, the Waiting Weird attentions turns to Moe as it sees another power word user. Braktor learns that clashes can cause instant violet death and normal death won't prevent the enemy to cause violet death on that being. Braktor gambles and tries to kill Ozzie but misses.
The Waiting Weird casts "Gaze of Doom" on Ozzie and turns his focus to Moe. The speaker enters a power word clash with Moe. However, the speaker is not targeting Moe but Dailos, his handmaiden. Mirage notices that some of Moe's words thrum with the lifestream and she risks her own soul to aid Moe in his clash. The speaker and Moe clash with all their power words and Moe gains the upper hand. However, the speaker is not alone, the Herald expends an entropy and overpowers Moe's word. Mirage begins to disintegrate in violet ash and the light of the red star fades. Suddenly, another Seven comes in and interferes with the clash. However, this Seven seems to be more potent from the previous as it is one of the last living Seven.
"The wizard stands with a druid. Ranic places his hand on Minthis' shoulder. She turns her eyes full of sorrow as if to ask "Is it truly my time?" Ranic will nod as he has made a place for her with all of their friends. She will smile and they will walk away together. Their time in this world is done. The light of the Seven dims further. Swirling, shifting, and fading. An like a nova of light, like that of an exploding star. This great sacrifice pays for it all."
The Starcaller Minthis fades away out of existence. Ozzie stands again and the wounded are healed. "The Herald Watches" is sealed and its presence disappear. The violet light fades away from the sky and the speaker fights alone. "Speak" is then sealed and the Waiting Weird goes silent. The speaker retreats from the fight and leaves the camp. However, The Waiting Weird escapes with confidence that his enemy has lost much more than it has. The fight is over and everybody gathers together.
In front of Moe lies a golden wedding ring with an inscription that says "To Minthis, Thanks for not killing me" (Thank you Wanderer for your service). Moe picks up the ring and take it to Braktor. Ano comes back from the mysterious light and shows Belanovan two Shards of Oblivion. Ano then explains that a staff with the symbol of the green triangle that was planted to the ground and it presented her with the shards. Moe and Braktor go to Mirage and thank her for what she did in the fight. Mirage continues that he was sent by Inu and the lifestream associates gather to talk about what they need to to. Braktor tells if Mirage has seen any violet eyes and Mirage answers that her party member Zacharius had one. Mirage also tells them that she knows the Song of Creation. The rest of the Shadow of Tyre party finally arrive and the camera fades out.

2020.10.24 19:26 DeathOnion Genshin Lore / Trivia Dump 1.0

Warning: lots of words ahead! This is kind of a compilation of interesting things I’ve gathered from the descriptions of items, books, voicelines, stories and more. I haven’t included much lore from the main story, and I also haven’t focused on many theories (apart from one of my own), so I'm trying to stick to facts or “implied” facts.
If you have anything interesting that you’d like me to add to the dump, please let me know! I plan to keep updating this as I keep getting new information. I’ve included excerpts of most of the sources I’ve used, but I’d suggest fully reading the books and stories I’ve included (cause they’re great). Also, please read the webcomic!

Interestingly, hilichurls seem to have a unique ability to manipulate the elements despite their low intelligence and primitive social structure. The ability is most notably manifested in the Shamans. Typically, humans require a Vision in order to exercise elemental control. The question of how Hilichurls are able to do so without a Vision is, therefore, one that requires further investigation and analysis.)
(Just as the inhabitants of the Seven Nations of Teyvat each have their religious beliefs, so too do the hilichurls. However, they worship not a specific figurehead with a presence in this world — such as one of The Seven — but elemental power itself in a more abstract sense. For instance, some hilichurl tribes in Mondstadt revere Anemo just as their human counterparts do, but they do not recognize the Anemo Archon Barbatos. Instead, they worship the power of Anemo itself.

It would appear that the hilichurl possess no concept of either the past or future, living only in the present. They do not intentionally store up food for survival, nor do they commemorate their deceased forebears. Though crude attempts at something like calligraphy have been widely observed within their camps, closer inspection reveals these markings to be nothing more than botched imitations of what they have seen in ancient ruins, possessing no originality whatsoever. Hilichurls do seem to have an inexplicable affinity for remnants of the past, evidenced by the fact that ruins are one of their preferred locations to camp. But investigations thus far have turned up nothing which might hint at the true nature of their connection with the lost civilizations to which these ruins belong.

(Traveler): Do you think that we're too harsh on the hilichurls?
Paimon: Well... sometimes we kinda seem like children who just can't resist kicking the hornet's nest...
Traveler): I think we're doing more than just kicking it...

Seelies

Legend tells of a lone wolf that roamed a barren wasteland far, far away.
Once, he had been king of his pack, leading them in the hunt, in battle, and in the search for a home… Now, the sole remaining legacy of those days were the scars that covered his body.
He has led the way as they ran across open plains, navigated through abandoned ruins, and passed through the domains of monsters and the Seelie.
The wasteland was a cruel place. The wolf-king grew older with each passing day, and the other wolves gradually dispersed. As time went by, the wolf pack’s history faded into distant memory, until finally only the aged wolf-king remained, the sole survivor of its pack.
This wasteland is said to be a land beyond the dominion of the deities, inhabited only by the grotesque ghostly remains of fallen gods, where the former palaces of the Seelie now stand empty. So when the solitary old wolf passed by a gray palace and heard the sound of music coming from within, it caught its attention.
“Never before have I heard a sound so pleasing to the ears, whether it be a song of bird or insect, that it stays the pangs of hunger in my starved stomach as this tune does.”
Intrigued, the wolf stepped inside the gray hall, trod across the overgrown weeds, and passed by a broken sarcophagus, on which a portrait of the deceased ruler was still clearly visible.
Finally, he came to an inner room, where he saw a fair maiden strumming at her instrument.
Her skin was ashen white and her head was bowed down, her slender fingers gently stroking the fragile strings of the lute as she played a long-forgotten and mournful melody.
The wolf sat down in front of the pale young maiden and forgot all about the pain of hunger, thirst, and loneliness for a short while, as it listened in silence to her song.
“The chirping of insects on a long-gone autumn night is the chorus of exiles, singing mankind’s most ancient song as they live out their plight…”
“Stripped of all that the body once held close and the soul once held dear, song and memories are all that now remain of yesteryear.”
“The last singers, the first Seelie, they played their final tune in the halls of angels.”
The tiny Seelie playing in the forest were also drawn to the young maiden’s tune, and flocked to her to pay their respects.
“What is this song that you play?”
The wolf asked, puzzled, for it understood every line, every word, every syllable she spoke—and yet, hers was a language that it had never heard before, quite unlike that of any other living being.
“A song of the Seelie,”
Replied the pale young maiden in a soft voice.
“Long, long ago, we wrote this song for the human savages. Yet now, we sing it to mourn our own fate.”
The wolf began to sing along, albeit clumsily, to the maiden’s tune.
The wolf’s voice was husky and broken, filled with a lifetime of sorrow.
“What are you singing?”
The maiden asked of the wolf.
“This is our song,”
Responded the wolf.
“It sounds ghastly.”
The maiden made no attempt to soften her criticism as she continued to caress the lute strings.
“But, you are welcome to sing along with me all the same.”
And so, a shared chorus sung by fair young maiden and weary old wolf filled the chambers of the long-abandoned palace. It is said that to this day, adventurers who pass by this place still hear a strange yet harmonious melody sounding from within.
“And then? …The story ends here?”
The wolf licked its lips, somewhat ruefully, and then said:
“I suppose I shall tell you a story now.”
And with that, the wolf cleared its throat and began to tell its tale.”

Traveler

Paimon: Mondstadt is full of wide plains and rolling hills.
Paimon: People say that when Barbatos made this land, he used the storm to flatten the cliffs and valleys...
(Traveler): Still, it looks like he missed a few spots.
Paimon: Like Starsnatch Cliff?
(Traveler): Exactly
(Traveler): It looks like a nozzle that wasn't smoothed out in the modeling stage.
Paimon: What's a nozzle?

(Traveler): The "Eclipse tribe..." So the hilichurls have normal-sounding tribe names like these, too.
Paimon: The hilichurls of the Eclipse tribe are really mysterious.
Paimon: All the hilichurls of that tribe can draw an eclipse symbol.Paimon: But rumor has it that only the Dada Samachurl of the Eclipse tribe knows why the Eclipse symbol is so revered within their tribe.
(Traveler): An Eclipse symbol...
Paimon: Hmm? Did you say something, (Traveler)?
(Traveler): Ah. I was asking you what sort of soup you'd like to have tonight.
Paimon: Can't stop thinking about food, huh? Seems like you'd be more at home in the Meaty tribe than the Eclipse tribe. But anyway, Paimon wants boar soup. Thanks!
Traveler’s sibling witnessed the destruction of the ancient civilization 500 years ago (story video “we will be reunited”) but that doesn’t mean they’ve been alive for 500 years. The abyss order has only recently gotten a “prince” (or princess, depending on gender choice) which means that somehow, Traveler’s sibling has come forward through time to the present. (story quest)

Khaenriah and Time

Kaeya profile: "His biological father squeezed his lean shoulders, but his look stretched through Kaeya, to someplace far beyond. On the other side of the horizon, sat their distant homeland of Khaenri'ah. Kaeya would never forget that look, intertwined with both hopefulness and hatred."
(chunk of aerosiderite: When Khaenri'ah was destroyed, a great sinner created endless monsters with alien, dark blood flowing through their veins. They rampaged across the land, destroying all in their paths. Their lives were mutations, caused by powers beyond this world. The black serpentine dragon Durin that attacked Mondstadt was such a mutation.)
(Breeze Amidst the Forest - Ballad Selection: The Eclipse Dynasty had fallen, and disaster spread across the land. The alchemist known as Gold was corrupted by his own greed and ambition, and created an army of shadowy monsters with his uncanny powers. Durin, a black serpentine dragon, rose from the sea to cast its shadow over Mondstadt...)
(sacrificial sword: "On the cliff facing the eastern sea, the ancestors worshiped the masters of Time and Anemo together. The two are intimately related, as expressed in the saying, "Anemo brings stories while Time nurtures them.")

Kaeya and Diluc

Kaeya Story 3: “The flourishing winery business in Mondstadt has been a great source of prosperity in the region over the years. This prosperity often entices greedy bandits and monsters to the area. They are a motley bunch who hide in the shadows, and their backgrounds, motives, and allegiances are varied and complex.
Kaeya battles against this threat to Mondstadt not only with his sword, but also with his smarts and his wit.
A young knight once dedicated years of his life to studying threats in and around Mondstadt, and reached an astounding conclusion: When Death After Noon is out of season due to lack of supply, the number of reported incidents inside and outside the city show a drastic decrease, and this remains the case until Death After Noon returns to the market...
The young knight showed his findings to Cavalry Captain Kaeya in hopes of getting some advice from him.
"Interesting. I'll look into it." Kaeya answered, with a wry smirk on his face.”
(Kaeya Story 5: “Many denizens still remember the two most eye-catching young gentlemen in all of Mondstadt. One of them was the impeccable Diluc, an elegant swordsman who always wore a friendly smile on his confident face. The other gentleman was the eccentric Kaeya. He was Diluc's friend, support, and sounding board, ensuring he got through every challenge he faced smoothly. They were almost like twins, knowing each other's thoughts and intentions without a word, protecting Mondstadt in both light and dark.
...Until that fateful day, now ingrained deep in Kaeya's memory, when the convoy Diluc was escorting was attacked by a huge monster. It was the first and only time Kaeya failed in his duty. By the time Kaeya finally reached Diluc, it was all already over. The power their father had used to successfully fend off the monster also backfired and took their father's life with it.”)
Kaeya Vision Story: There was a side to Kaeya that he kept hidden from the world: In truth, he was an agent of Khaenri’ah, placed in Mondstadt to serve their interests. His father had abandoned him in this strange and unknown land to fulfill his mission, and it was Master Crepus and the city of Mondstadt that had welcomed him with open arms when they found him.
If Khaenri'ah and Mondstadt went to war, which side should he support? To whom should he offer his assistance: his birth father, who had ruthlessly abandoned him? Or his adoptive father, who loved him and raised him?
For the longest time, Kaeya had agonized over these impossible questions, caught between the opposing demands of loyalty and duty, faced with an impossible choice between truth and happiness.
But now, Crepus' death upset this delicate balance. He felt liberated, but also ashamed of how selfishly he was responding.
As an adopted son, he should have saved Crepus, but he had arrived moments too late. As a brother, he should have shared in Diluc's grief, and yet as their father lay dying on the ground he had hung back behind his brother, that ancient plot running through his mind.
Consumed by guilt, Kaeya knocked on Diluc's door. As the rain poured down, the shroud of secrecy was washed away, all lies were revealed. Kaeya had finally come clean.
He had anticipated Diluc's anger.
The brothers drew their blades, this time pointing them at each other. Kaeya felt that this was his punishment for a lifetime of lies.
But as the two crossed blades, Kaeya was overcome by the sensation of great elemental power surging through him. For years, he had stayed out of the way in his brother's shadow. But now, for the first time ever, he was facing his brother as his true self.
Bitterly cold and brittle elemental energy burst forth from the tip of his sword to meet Diluc's searing flames head-on. The clash of crimson fire and azure ice created a sudden swirl of wind that stunned them both. This was the grim moment at which Kaeya's Vision appeared.
Since that day, Kaeya and Diluc have gone their separate ways.
But he never discusses it, just as he never discusses the origin of his Vision
Though it is a reminder of the hard-fought battle, and the prize that he earned in exchange for revealing the unadulterated truth, Kaeya sees it as a stern reminder that he must live the rest of his life under the heavy burden of lies.

Gods and Teyvat

(Bit of Aerosiderite: The coastal nations of Teyvat refer to the region beyond the protection of The Seven as the Dark Sea. It is said many defeated gods refused to live under the new order of The Seven, so they fled to remote islands and became evil gods. However, their powers came from the same source as Rex Lapis, separate from this all-devouring darkness.)
(Piece of Aerosiderite: Rumors of sea monsters are commonplace in Liyue, since the other-shore is an unknown region that lies outside of Teyvat. Without the protection of The Seven, all that lies beyond is unknown chaos. Only power beyond the order of Teyvat is able to stain the power of Rex Lapis black.)
(Decarabian Fragments: The place now known as Stormterror's Lair was once the capital city of Decarabian, the God of Storms. Since this dream of prosperity was created entirely by his divine might, the broken pieces left behind by the shattering of that dream still possess great power. Decarabian, the God of Storms, was content with the capital city he had raised, and accepted the worship of the people from atop his tower. But he knew not that the people did not bow to him out of respect or adoration. The people did not bow to Decarabian out of respect or adoration, but because the harsh winds had laid them low. This was the shattered dream and ambition of the Anemo Archon before the rise of Barbatos. He tried so hard to make his dream come true, and so the fragments of that dream are still mighty. Andrius once declared war upon Decarabian, but failed to even scratch the capital of the Lord of the Tower. If it were not for the song of freedom that shattered the city in an instant, Decarabian's dream would have gone on forever.)
(Teyvat Travel Guide, Mondstadt: Brightcrown Canyon leads to this huge ruin of an ancient city which was built by the cruel King of Gales, Decarabian. The city was built in a ring-shape. It seems that every resident of the city had been arranged their own spot between the inner and outer rings. Right in the center of the city was the tall tower where the King of Gales resided. The ruins of the domain of this cruel king, who once tried to control his people’s lives, are now utterly deserted.)
(Diary of Roald the Adventurer: Sal Terrae: From the scale of this ruin, I suspect it is the temple that provided safe refuge for civilians during the Archon War several millennia ago. I’ve heard that the Goddess of Salt built such a place. Liyue folklore holds that she was the gentlest of the gods. In the brutality and chaos of wartime, human beings were puny and disposable. But the Salt Goddess refused to join the other gods in their senseless battle for dominance, instead choosing to give shelter to those dispossessed by the war. She brought them here to build a new settlement. She showed them kindness and comfort. And even as global upheaval ushered in the end of an epoch, she worked tirelessly to bring about a return of peace between the Archons. The gentlest of the Archons fell not in battle at the hands of the other Archons. She fell at the hand of her own people, the people she had loved so dearly.)
(Diary of Roald the Adventurer: Guyun Stone Forest: I had the most awful night's sleep last night. I dreamt I was somewhere pitch-black and damp. Suddenly, I was a sea monster, and my impaled body was being driven into the ocean floor by the Geo Archon's polearm. I writhed around and clutched at the giant polearm made of rock, trying desperately to free myself, but it was wedged firmly in place. Each movement I made filled me with agony, and with rage...)

Lisa

(When I taught Razor how to utilize Elemental Energy, I never expected him to master the technique so quickly. Come to think of it, you're talented too. Maybe I could teach you a few tricks...)
(Razor Story: "Master, what is... 'friends'?" Razor once asked of his new mentor, working at the limits of his vocabulary. His purple-clothed mentor seemed to know it all, from how to make hash browns from potatoes in the ground, to the name of the brightest star in the summer night sky. However, Lisa simply smiled and yawned without answering him. Razor thought about it when the wind blew, when the rain fell — even when Wolfhook berries got stuck in his fur. He just couldn't figure it out.)
(Hi darling, are you going to be Lisa's little helper? What? Me, a grand mage? That was a long time ago, I'm just a humble librarian now. \chuckles*)*
(Ascension 4: \chuckles* If I were to recover my full power, who knows what kind of things just might happen?)*
(\yawns* Good morning, Jean... Oh it's you! Sorry, dear.”)*
(When Lisa is around, I always have peace of mind.)

Alice

(The three hilichurl tribes located in this valley are all densely populated. What if we built a huge spinning ball-shaped cell in the center of the valley and threw all of the hilichurls into it? That way we might be able to generate enough energy to power all the mills in Mondstadt for at least five years. If we took it one step further by grinding the hilichurls that are too old or too weak into food and feeding them to the strong ones, we might just build ourselves a perpetual motion machine that can support a huge factory like in Snezhnaya!)
(At the center there is a huge oak tree. It is said that Vennessa ascended there. I searched around the tree for a long time but did not find any launching device. I grabbed some hilichurls nearby to put my theory to the test. Sadly, the longest flying distance was from here to the hunters’ huts around Springvale. How disappointing.)
(This valley I found at the northeast coast of Cider Lake is still guarded by ancient mechanisms, but the soldiers responsible for holding the pass for the King of Gales were nowhere to be found now. All the winds of time had left behind were the unintelligent hilichurls and silent mechanical guards. My attempt to control Ruin Guards with hilichurls failed as well. The guard split into pieces, and as for the fate of the hilichurl strapped onto it… I will spare you the gory details.)

Oceanid

(Oceanid description: "A lifeform created from condensed Hydro elements of incredible purity...it is also said by some that Oceanids were once sea creatures from a home far away who carried the fragments of a long-dead god to the many corners of this world. Perhaps they did this so that the love their god held for this world could be spread through the water to all the land...")
(When the fight starts: "So, murderers from our homeland have come on a futile journey to harass the people of the Qingce waters...very well then. But be warned, her power shall crush any miscreant that would dare pollute these waters. With no place to flow, even the purest of water will begin to envy the forms of living being who can roam about freely. it is this water that will be used to drown you and the pollution you bring.)
(Upon defeat: "We but only seek tranquil waters. Why should we be denied such a thing? However, as long as lakes and streams still remain, then rain shall continue to fall from the skies and water will never truly disappear...")

Thank you for reading everything I’ve dumped so far! I haven’t covered too much of Liyue, so I’ll be sure to add more of that soon. I’ll also gladly include anything I’ve missed out on, if you have something new for me to add!

2020.10.24 19:20 GoGo_BBIBBI MA school questions

I’m curious about what working in MA schools is like.
I’m from MA originally but moved to NYC 8 years ago where I got my grad degree and now work at a school. The pandemic is giving me apartment fatigue and I’m thinking about moving back to MA.
I LOVE my current job though. I work in a D75 (special needs) High School. It’s an amazing place where we work with students to help them transition into jobs and a lot of therapy is even done at their work sites (Shake Shack, Modell’s, CVS etc.) I have a great supervisor, very good pay, a great pension program, very reasonable caseload, and a really unique working environment. We even get to pick our own caseload and do our own scheduling. D75 schools also go all year and you get 18% of your yearly pay extra if you work summers.
I have a pretty long list of things I am grateful for at my current job, but I am hoping I can find a good school in MA. NYC is the only school district I know about. Does anyone have any information on MA schools? Specifically I am wondering...
1) how can I look up pay scales? Are SLPs considered teachers (like in NYC) 2) Are there public schools that specialize in special education or have large numbers of students who need services? I love my Autistic and ID students and I don’t have much interest in doing articulation therapy/gen Ed speech. 3) what are you caseloads like? 4) is it hard/easy to work summers? 5) how is the job security? Can you get tenure? 6) is it hard to find a school job
I’m asking for a lot but I appreciate any insight at all! Thank you!!
